Start a Club

Starting a Kids to Kids club at your school is fun, easy, and definitely rewarding. So for all of you out there thinking about starting one, we thought it would be good to give you a few little tips.

Step One

First of all it is very helpful to have a classmate or friend helping you. You will find that there are tasks which would be much simpler if split between two people.

Step Two

Secondly it is very important to have a faculty sponsor. This just means having a teacher or member of the staff at your school who can oversee everything you are doing.  Trust us, everyone needs a little push every now and then. You can pick someone who is involved with public service at your school, or just an adult who is interested in getting involved. Just make sure they are as motivated as you are!

Step Three

Then you have to go about getting the word out about your Kids to Kids club to the school. Depending on your school you can make an announcement, or send out an email, even put up posters in the hallways, any way to make sure that Kids to Kids is a relatively familiar name.

Step Four

Plan a time and date for the first meeting and tell people it will be an informational meeting describing what exactly Kids to Kids is and how to get involved. Don’t be worried if there aren’t that many people at your first meeting, once word of your Kids to Kids club gets out there, people will start wondering what it’s all about and want to join. One of the most important things to do at your first meeting is to have everyone talk about and take the Kids to Kids Membership Pledge!

TIP: If you have a computer and internet access, everyone at your meeting can take the Pledge online. If you don't have a computer or internet access, download a copy of the Pledge. Print it and make copies for your meeting. Make sure everyone completes it, and then after the meeting you can fill in their information online yourself ;)

And Beyond...

After you’ve done all this, you just have to start brainstorming with your partner what to do at the meetings. You can talk about fun ways to fundraise and get everyone’s ideas, take the Kids to Kids membership pledge, plan events, etc. The most important thing is to have fun!
