Project: Creative Corner for Kids in Cristo Rey

  • Grant Award: $500
  • Country: Costa Rica
  • Status: Completed

Success Story!:  This project created a fun activity area for kids aged 1-6. With the grant money, puzzles, games, and art supplies were purchased. Through the project, many kids who were previously very shy came out and played with the other kids. Kids involved in the project realized the importance of learning, reading, and sharing. This project also gave the Comite Tutelar, who organized and implemented the project, extreme confidence. This project will allow kids to have fun while the parents relax and do their work.

Project Description:  The Comite Tutelar of Cristo Rey, a group that works to promote and protect children's rights in the community, plans to create a "creative corner" in the community to enhance child development. We will equip the area with tables and chairs, a chalkboard, books, puzzles and art supplies, which will be available to young children when they accompany their parents to the community center for meetings. The Comite Tutelar members will plan activities for the kids during these meetings, such as art projects and story times. This will be an important contribution to our poor community, where most kids do not have toys, books, nor drawing materials in their homes. This project will enhance creativity, imagination, cooperation, fine motor-skills and a love for reading in the 40 children under seven in Cristo Rey.
