Project: Teaching Life Lessons Through Sports

  • Grant Award: $494
  • Country: El Salvador
  • Status: Completed

Success Story!:   "The project was extremely successful. Through the equipment purchased the Teosinte School has greatly improved its physical education program. Teams from the school also competed in a softball and soccer tournament sponsored by a nearby school. The kids involved now have more constructive things to do in their spare time. The students have also taught some of the games they learned to other people who did not participate in the program. Kids to Kids allowed us to create a project that was unique to Teosinte and addressed specific needs within the school."

Project Description:   This project seeks to teach the students of Teosinte valuable life lessons through the use of sports. As of now, the school sporting equipment consists of a few tired old softballs, some oversized mitts, and a flattened soccer ball. With the help of Kids to Kids, the school will be able to drastically improve its physical education program with the purchase of uniforms and new equipment for soccer, softball and basketball.

A properly developed physical education program serves much more than to just allow kids to blow off excess energy. Learning and playing new sports teaches children many applicable life lessons like teamwork, humility and winning and losing with class and honor. With the new equipment, the school will also be able to travel to other nearby schools to learn and play with students from other communities.
All kids deserve a chance to play. The children of Teosinte find ways to play despite being dealt a tough hand. With this project, the students of Teosinte can learn and play sports just like any other kid living thousands of miles away.
